ZIPTRAK® OUTDOOR

Inspired by Sails, Engineered for Strength: Why Ziptrak® Blinds Are Made to Last

Singapore’s tropical climate is unpredictable – one day may bring scorching sunlight, and the next torrential downpours.

These year-round weather challenges can make using semi-outdoor spaces difficult to maintain for homeowners. Balconies and patios are wonderful spaces, yet are all too vulnerable to our country’s harsh weather changes.

Fortunately, there are now many options available to homeowners who want to reclaim their semi-outdoor spaces. Outdoor shades and treatments abound, though not all are built to endure Singapore’s weather conditions, with lasting effectiveness.

This is where Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds come in. Drawing inspiration from the strength and reliability of sails, these blinds deliver unmatched protection for your semi-outdoor spaces.

Its key differentiator is the patented side spline system unique to Ziptrak®, a standout among track-guided outdoor blinds, thanks to its proven performance in extreme weather conditions. Engineered and tested in Australia’s harsh weather, this specialised side spline demonstrates high durability in strong wind conditions, and helps to protect semi-outdoor spaces as well as any furnishings within.

Not all blinds are built equal

Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds offer durability beyond what most standard outdoor roller blinds can.

In Singapore’s climate, many typical blind systems start to sag, flap or show signs of wear within the first year, due to constant exposure to intense sun, humidity, strong winds and heavy rain.

That’s because the standard materials and construction methods used in most outdoor blinds simply aren’t built to withstand the high UV levels and stormy weather we experience here. As a result, these fabrics and components fade, warp, or tear over time, leading to increased maintenance or even yearly replacements.

Ziptrak® is designed differently. From its robust materials to its patented track-guided side spline, every element of the outdoor blind is built for heavy-duty performance and long-term reliability. It’s a system that delivers dependable rain protection, and serves as one of the most trusted outdoor blinds for strong wind conditions, whether for high-rise balconies or landed homes.

From sailboats to skylines

Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds are one of a kind – at the heart of their design is a unique and patented side spline that achieves a secure hold on both sides of the blind.

This innovation was inspired by the proven strength of sailboat engineering. On sailboats, a sail spline is what keeps the sails taut and steady, even when battling extreme winds or rough seas.

Ziptrak®’s engineers adapted this same principle to create the brand’s track-guided system. Developed in 1999 and refined in a dedicated R&D facility in Adelaide Australia, Ziptrak® is the original creator of this guided outdoor blind concept.

Its side spline features a durable PVC core encased by a premium Kedar tape, which is coated in acrylic lacquer to resist mildew and soiling.

The result is a design where blinds can perform with the same reliability that sailboats’ sails offer – taut, resilient, and built to last.

What makes the side spline so special

The Ziptrak® side spline is responsible for locking the fabric of the blinds in place along both vertical edges, minimising movement even in extreme weather. This allows the blind system to withstand static wind loads of up to 260km/hr*. With the capability to withstand those, this side spline can offer an unparalleled barrier against rain, wind and dust. It also provides the added protection needed by those living on higher floors or landed homes which are more exposed.

Besides keeping the blinds taut and wrinkle-free for years, the spline also prevents sagging or tearing in strong winds. This reduces fabric strain and extends product life, even if you leave these outdoor blinds half-drawn in windy conditions.

This side spline is used in all Ziptrak® Outdoor products, regardless whether you opt for the manual or motorised options.

Ziptrak® manual Superspring Blinds are paired with a centre-lock release that offers secure anchoring when the blinds are drawn. A bottom bumper also enables a close fit even on uneven floors, helping to improve its ability to block out pests, dust, and water.

With materials tested against Australia’s extreme heat, wind, and rain, Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds have proven their resilience. They’re not just blinds for rain protection – they’re engineered for long-term weather performance.

Tailored for the Singapore market

Singapore’s climate has its own quirks, and homeowners may have different needs, depending on the conditions their homes are exposed to. This is why Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds come with a range of fabric options to help provide both climate control and comfort in style.

  • RainOut® Frosted is the semi-transparent, non-porous, rain-resistant option homeowners choose when their main concern is keeping precipitation out of their spaces. It lets them enjoy natural light while also keeping their privacy. It also retains cooled air from air conditioning.
  • RainOut® Blackout is the ultimate PVC fabric for both privacy and light reduction. It offers full protection from the elements and retains cooled air from air conditioning.
  • ClearView™ is the marine-grade PVC adored by cafe and restaurant owners who want to safeguard their outdoor spaces, yet allow customers to enjoy an unobstructed view of their surroundings.

By selecting the correct fabric for their needs, homeowners and proprietors can easily customise their Ziptrak® installation to their needs, whether that’s rain protection, privacy or light control.

Long-term value with low-effort maintenance

Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds are known for more than strength. They also have a reputation for simplicity, specifically in maintenance.

To begin with, the sealed and track-guided system keeps dirt and water from entering your semi-outdoor spaces. Ziptrak®’s PestOut® pelmet adds another layer of protection by preventing insects and debris from settling inside the housing of the blinds.

There are also brushes within the pelmet to clean the fabric every time the blind moves up or down.

And to clean Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds, a simple wipe-down using a damp cloth and mild soap is all that’s needed!

All this makes Ziptrak® a truly low-maintenance solution with high-performance results. You get heavy-duty outdoor blinds without the upkeep costs of most other solutions.

Ziptrak® brings the sailing edge to your home

Ziptrak® remains the only outdoor blind system on the market to offer the side spline design based on sailing technology. This one-of-a-kind feature sets the brand’s blinds far ahead of the rest – not just in strength, but also in aesthetic and seamless function.

The system has earned recognition in Australia for its innovation and design, and continues to set the standard for outdoor blinds.
